Bicentennial Talk on Historian and Educator Silas Wright
Silas Wright, 19th Century Educator and Author of First History of Perry County will be the subject of attorney and historian Jeffrey Wright’s talk. One of the most prominent persons in the second half of the 19th Century in Perry County, Silas Wright directed a ‘normal’ school for educators in Millerstown and conducted annual training seminars for the schoolteachers of the County for decades. His 1872 publication on the history of the County was not surpassed until H.H. Hain’s 1922 tome on the engaging story of this region of the Susquehanna and Juniata River valleys.
